Diamondbacks Star Approaching History After Another Big Night

Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star outfielder Corbin Carroll is Major League Baseball’s current triples king; there’s no doubt about that.

Carroll added two more triples to his 2025 tally on Tuesday night in a 6-5 home victory over the Cleveland Guardians.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale provided some historical context on Carroll’s night.

“D-backs OF Corbin Carroll, who has two more triples tonight, now has a franchise-record 16 triples this season,” Nightengale wrote. “The last MLB player with more triples in a season was the New York Mets’ Jose Reyes with 19 triples in 2008. The D-backs still have 35 games left on the schedule.”

Carroll is now slashing .251/ .327/ .550/ .877 on the season to go along with 27 home runs, 64 RBIs and 16 stolen bases.

The 24-year-old was named an All-Star earlier in the season, his second All-Star nod in three seasons. He was the National League Rookie of the Year in 2023 and also received an All-MLB First Team nod that season. Carroll led the National League in triples in each of the last two seasons, and it’s about to happen again this season.

By the way, the record for most triples in an MLB season belongs to Owen Wilson, who hit 36 triples in 1912, his age-28 season. Tied for second on the list behind Wilson are Dave Orr (31 triples in 1886) and Henry Reitz (31 triples in 1894).

Only a few players in the top 15 of said list achieved their triple explosions in the 21st century.

Stacking triples is a skill from a bygone era, making Carroll’s feats all the more impressive.
