Everton retain interest in Middlesbrough star as exit speculation ramps up again

Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney remains a target for Everton heading into the final stages of the window, as per Sky Sports.

Middlesbrough boast one of the Championship’s standout players in Hayden Hackney, and once again this summer transfer window, the Boro midfielder has not been short of interest.

A whole host of clubs have been linked with the England U21s international, but no move away from the Riverside has materialised yet.

Ipswich Town launched a bid and agreed a fee with Boro but Hackney snubbed the switch. Premier League links are persisting though, and one side that remains keen heading into the final stages of the window is Everton.

According to Sky Sports, Middlesbrough man Hackney is still a target for Everton as they look to strengthen their own squad before the end of the window.

It remains to be seen whether they’ll launch a bid, but it feels as though the chance is there for someone to prise the 23-year-old away from Boro this summer if they wish to do so.

Hackney is currently under contract for another two years having last penned new terms in the summer of 2023, so Middlesbrough are in a good negotiating position still.

Hayden Hackney rumours ramping up again as deadline day nears

Ipswich Town’s move for Hackney was widely viewed as an ambitious and opportunistic one, largely because no Premier League sides have made firm moves to sign the Middlesbrough star yet.

The fact he snubbed the switch shows he isn’t looking to move for the sake of it; if he’s remaining in the Championship, it will likely be with Boro, but if a Premier League side comes in, it could be a different story.

ITFC are said to remain keen though and could make another move before the window’s end regardless. They could face competition though, with Everton interested and West Ham also reported to be on the trail of the talented midfielder.

Middlesbrough have to consider sale stance carefully

Middlesbrough have already strengthened their midfield with the loan signing of Sverre Nypan and Abdoulaye Kante’s arrival. However, an exit for Hackney would mean a new midfielder is wanted.

Additionally though, the funds from a sale could be reinvested across the squad. Doing so with little time left in the window will be tough, so Boro can’t leave it too late if Hackney is to depart.

As such, it could be wise to set a deadline a deal needs to be done by if he is to move. If Plenty of time is left between then and the end of the window, Boro will be able to reinvest the funds from a Hackney sale and suitably place him while strengthening in other key areas.
