Newcastle could be forced into an Alexander Isak transfer decision if they sign Yoane Wissa following interest from Liverpool, it has been claimed. Eddie Howe's side is facing increasing pressure to sell their Swedish star after he expressed a desire to leave the club.

The summer-long transfer saga took an explosive twist on Tuesday night after Isak spoke out publicly for the first time about his unhappiness at 'broken promises' at St James' Park. However, Newcastle issued a defiant response stating that they will not be bullied into an exit for their record signing.

The Magpies claimed that they have set out demands for their forward but don't foresee their expectations being met.

However, Sky Sports' Keith Downie has proposed an alternative to their view regarding the ongoing pursuit of Wissa.

The Brentford star is not viewed as a replacement for Isak, more as the successor to Callum Wilson who left the club on a free in the summer.

It has been claimed that should the deal for Wissa be completed and Liverpool re-enter the market for Isak, Newcastle face a decision over whether to cash-in on their wantaway striker.

Reports have suggested that Newcastle would need two strikers before even considering sanctioning an exit for Isak.

Downie said: "We know that Newcastle are trying to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford - that would be the replacement for Callum Wilson.

"Now, if Newcastle manage to get Wissa in the door and Liverpool made a huge bid for Alexander Isak in the remaining 12 days of the window, I think Newcastle have probably got a decision to make.

"If Newcastle fail to bring in Wissa, there is no way Alexander Isak is leaving because you would essentially be leaving the club without a central striker.

"If some magic happened in the window and they manage to find a top-level replacement from somewhere for Isak and they brought in Wissa, then my understanding is Isak would be allowed to go if Liverpool up their bid.

"I think it would need to be another £25m on top of that (£110m plus add-ons) for Newcastle to sit up and listen.

"Until they have got even one replacement in - and they have failed to do that so far this window - there will be no deal happening."
