Colts star takes brutal shot at team after Richardson is benched

The Indianapolis Colts opened training camp with an open quarterback competition between Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson. On Tuesday, that competition came to a close, with the Colts and head coach Shane Steichen making their decision on the best guy to lead the team for the 2025 season.

“A QB decision in Indy: Colts named Daniel Jones as their starting quarterback for their Sept. 7 regular-season opener vs. the Miami Dolphins,” ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on Twitter.

Schefter continued with a report that Shane Steichen was sticking with Jones for the entirety of the season.

“Colts HC Shane Steichen is not planning for this to be a short-term arrangement for Daniel Jones. ‘He’s the starting QB for the season, Steichen told reporters today. ‘I don’t want to have a short leash on that.’”

One of the leaders in the Colts’ locker room also made his feelings on the matter clear, and it’s safe to say he’s not happy the franchise’s lack of stability at the sport’s most important position.

“I think I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t,” left guard Quenton Nelson said after being asked if it was frustrating repeatedly changing quarterbacks. “You look around the league and just see the consistency of having Patrick Mahomes or a QB behind you that’s been the franchise player for years.”

As for Richardson, it appears he doesn’t exactly trust the Colts at the moment.

“Trust is a big factor, and that is, at best, questionable right now. Anthony came back and made the improvements in the areas he needed to improve. And by all accounts, he had a great camp,” his agent said.

It’ll be interesting to see if Richardson gets another chance to be a starter in the league.
