Daniel Jones is officially the starting quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts, and people cannot be more pleased with the news. Jones is currently on a one-year deal with the team and the announcement both shocked and delighted people. The team was actually predicted to name Anthony Richardson as their starting quarterback.
Richardson joined the team back in 2023 and impressed with his performance in the latter part of the previous NFL season. Richardson managed a total of 1,814 passing yards with a total of eight touchdowns for the team. The quarterback’s agent, Deiric Jackson, voiced his frustrations about the decision, and justified that his client deserved the opportunity because he had made many improvements to his game just to be the best QB1.

Indianapolis Colts quarterbacks Anthony Richardson Sr. (5), Daniel Jones (17) and Riley Leonard (15) prepare for drills Monday, July 28, 2025, during training camp held at Grand Park in Westfield.
“Trust is a big factor and that is, at best, questionable right now. Anthony came back and made the improvements in the areas he needed to improve. And by all counts, he had a great camp.” Deiric Jackson said as reported by ESPN.
Daniel Jones played majorly for the New York Giants in his NFL career and was part of the Minnesota Vikings roster in the previous football season but never actually played. With an experienced player like Colts in their team, the Indianapolis Colts will be hoping to somehow get closer to the Lombardi Trophy in the upcoming NFL season.
Daniel Jones As the Starting QB Gets Anthony Richardson’s Positive Reaction
While Daniel Jones being named as starting quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts might have irked his agent, Anthony Richardson feels differently. When asked for his reaction to the announcement, Richardson simply remarked that as a team player, he had to respect the decision of the management.

Indianapolis Colts quarterbacks Daniel Jones (17) and Anthony Richardson Sr. (5) pass Wednesday, July 23, 2025, during the first day of training camp held at Grand Park in Westfield.
“You have to respect the decision. They feel like he’s a better fit for the team and the outcome of us winning. You have to respect it and keep working. It doesn’t undermine any of the work I’ve put in. It doesn’t say I haven’t improved. I’m proud of the improvement I’ve made. I guess you could say I was somewhat surprised, but at the end of the day we all knew somebody was going to have be on this end of the stick, and you know, it was me.”Anthony Richardson said after the announcement.
Daniel Jones has plenty to prove after being unable to put on an impressive performance after his time with the Minnesota Vikings. The veteran quarterback will be eager to show off his QB skills for the Colts in the upcoming football season.
