Liverpool are ready to make a new move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, according to the latest reports.

Isak released a bombshell statement on Tuesday night where he spoke about ‘broken promises’ having been made. The striker has been training away from the main squad since pre-season amid speculation over his future.

Newcastle then responded with a statement of their own, where they said that ‘no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer’.

Isak was named in the PFA Premier League team of the year in an awards ceremony held in Manchester on Tuesday night. He didn’t attend the event due to the speculation over his future.

The situation should add to the intensity that is expected when Liverpool visit St James’ Park for Newcastle’s first home match of the season on Monday night (8pm kick-off).

The Sun are reporting that Liverpool chiefs have now ‘approved’ a new £130 million bid for Isak that will be placed next week, with the club confident that Newcastle will let the striker leave.

The bid would beat the current British record set by Liverpool this summer in the £116 million transfer of Florian Wirtz. It is added that there has been discussions with Isak’s representatives by Liverpool with personal terms on a move not a problem.

Any move will leave Newcastle looking for more attacking reinforcements and among their targets is Brentford’s Yoane Wissa. The Bees are said to value Wissa at £60 million, but with the player digging his heels in over a move, the newspaper says that a deal could possibly be struck ‘before the weekend’.
