He first came to Leeds as more of a striker, but the likes of Garry Monk opted to utilise him as more of a winger. That was before Marcelo Bielsa had him firing as a number nine once again.

Roofe still follows Leeds’ progress and transfer activity, despite leaving the club years ago now. However, injuries and fitness issues have held him back in recent years.

Kemar Roofe decides Rangers are bigger than Leeds

Roofe left Leeds for Anderlecht in a £7 million switch back in 2019, but he then swiftly moved back to the UK via a move to Scottish giants Rangers.

Roofe just played half a season at Derby County but he only made three appearances. The 32-year-old is a free agent once more this summer.

However, he has been asked which club is the biggest out of Leeds and Rangers via the Under The Cosh podcast. Roofe said: “Both of them massive, massive, massive.

“Anywhere in the world I go, literally, I will bump into either or: Rangers and Leeds. Anywhere.

“But, fanbase-wise, I’d probably have to say Rangers because Leeds is just Leeds.

“Rangers is people in Glasgow. You obviously support Rangers or Celtic. Then, outside of Glasgow, Scottish people will either support their local team plus Rangers or Celtic.

“You go to Ireland and Northern Ireland, it’s one of the two again. You come to England and they’ll have an English team but also a Scottish team as well.

“So, there’s more people that seem to support Rangers. There’s more scope.

“Whereas Leeds, Leeds fans are living in Leeds pretty much. They’re from Leeds. That’s how I would break it down.

“That’s what it comes down to.”

Interestingly, Leeds also have major support in Ireland and Northern Ireland, which was shown during the friendly in Dublin with AC Milan.

They also have a decent fanbase in Scandinavia, with Norway and Sweden particularly white, yellow, and blue.

Eddie Gray’s verdict on Leeds’ atmosphere compared to Celtic’s

Leeds and Rangers are renowned as two of the loudest sets of fans, with both Ibrox and Elland Road atmospheric on the best and worst occasions.

Scottish icon Eddie Gray believes the loudest he has ever heard is neither, though. Gray thinks Leeds fans aren’t as loud as Celtic. He said: ““When you think of the game at Hampden, the second game, there were 137,000 that day. There was about 2000 Leeds supporters. It was just amazing.

“The funny thing about that game was, we were in the dressing room at Hampden, and big Jack [Charlton] and Norman [Hunter] — the experienced boys — they’re sitting there and the roof is vibrating, you know?

“They were looking at each other as if to say, ‘what’s this?’

“That’s probably the best atmosphere I’ve ever played under. I don’t think there will have ever been a game where the atmosphere is better.”
