Brentford have rejected a fresh package worth £40million from Newcastle United for Yoane Wissa.
Newcastle United’s latest failed attempt to sign Yoane Wissa never meant anything as far as Alexander Isak’s possible Liverpool move is concerned.
It is no secret that the Magpies have liked the Brentford man throughout the summer window. Initially, the Bees were not thought to be keen on losing Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo, their other attacking talisman.
Mbeumo joined Manchester United for a staggering £70million last month but that has not stopped Wissa from forcing an exit. If anything, losing his teammate has emboldened the 28-year-old’s desire to leave.
Brentford reject fresh offer
Brentford - having already rejected an offer from Newcastle for Wissa earlier in the window - turned down a second approach earlier today. Various outlets reported United’s bid totalling up to £40million, including add-ons.
The Athletic confirmed Brentford’s latest snub - sending the Magpies back to the drawing board in their striker hunt. NewcastleWorld got word over the weekend that the Bees are looking for at least £50million.
Yoane Wissa x Alexander Isak comparisons

Alan Shearer put Wissa in the same bracket as Isak when comparing the two yesterday. He told The Rest Is Football podcast: “I don’t like players that have got a contract not training or refusing to train or refusing to play. You have a contract behind you. “Now I always said that I understand there are two sides to every story. Isak might have a story that he hasn’t spoken about yet.
“Wissa might have a story that he hasn’t spoken about yet. I think I read this morning he’s deleted all his photographs of being in a Brentford shirt or anything to do with Brentford. I don’t know his side of the story but I don’t like it. I’m exactly the same as the Isak situation, it is not right.”

Liverpool excitement premature
There were some in Liverpool circles on social media believing Wissa to Newcastle provided a boost for their hopes of signing Isak. After all, the Magpies buying a striker can hardly hinder their chances.
However, it is understood the Brentford man was always viewed as Callum Wilson’s replacement. The No.9 tier above - which saw Newcastle target the likes of Hugo Ekitke, Joao Pedro and Benjamin Sesko - were the players that could have seen Isak leave.
