Newcastle United star Joelinton has 'liked' a fan's social media post sharing their opinion on the Alexander Isak situation.

The Magpies and the 25-year-old are at a standoff over his future, with the Swede unwilling to play for the club again amid interest from Liverpool. But Newcastle remain firm that he is not for sale.

On Tuesday night, Isak took to social media to express his frustration over what he described as 'broken promises' during his time at St James' Park. A few hours later, the club responded with a statement reaffirming their commitment to keeping the player.

"We are disappointed to have been alerted to a social media post by Alexander Isak this evening," the statement read. "We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer. We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to their views.

"As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired.

"We do not foresee those conditions being met. This is a proud football club with proud traditions and we strive to retain our family feel. Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates."

Amid the speculation, Newcastle fan group Wor Flags took to Instagram following Isak's statement.

The caption to the post is seemingly aimed at Isak. It read: "Idolised and adored. No promises broken by the fans that make this club. We deserve better than the destructive path you’ve chosen. Newcastle United will never be defeated."

Newcastle midfielder Joelinton was among those who liked the post, with fans voicing their discontent toward the striker, while others commended the club for handling the situation positively so far.

He was one of more than 6,800 people to like the post at the time of writing.
