Gary Lineker changes his relegation prediction after one Premier League game, but Wolves still…

After one round of Premier League games, Gary Lineker and the Rest is Football crew are reassessing their predictions for the campaign, with their stance on Wolves unchanged.

Before a ball was kicked, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer predicted a relegation struggle for Wolves.

They were leaning more towards the three promotion sides going down, but acknowledged the unfavourable position Wolves were in following a quiet summer.

But now, after a first glimpse at the sides, Lineker’s opinion has changed.

While Lineker suggested last week that it will be business as usual in the relegation outcome, with all three promoted sides going down again, he now seems to be pivoting.

He says: “I think at least one of the promoted clubs I suspect will go down,” which deviates from his previous stance.

When asked who he thinks could be at risk of taking their place, he names Brentford, Wolves and West Ham.

MORE WOLVES STORIES

Brentford have been stripped of much of what made them so dangerous over the past few seasons, with Thomas Frank, Bryan Mbeumo, and Christian Norgaard leaving and Yoane Wissa close to a move to Newcastle.

West Ham just suffered a 3-0 thumping at the hands of newly promoted Sunderland.

And Wolves appear to be an obvious choice among pundits.

Sunderland’s impressive first game back in the top flight paired with the huge amount of money spent makes them a team to watch, while Leeds and Burnley showed serious quality in the Championship last season, amassing 100 points each.

It really feels like this could be the year someone makes promotion stick, and it’s clear Wolves are a team at risk.

Whether fans want to admit it or not, the games against these teams will be some of the most crucial this season.

They play all three promoted sides in their next eight fixtures, and failure to get positive results in those ties could spell serious trouble for Vitor Pereira and Wolves.
