The Athletic have revealed that Brentford has rejected Newcastle United’s latest offer for Yoane Wissa.
This comes as a blow for Liverpool’s chances of landing Alexander Isak, with the Bees forward widely viewed as a potential catalyst for the Swede to make the switch to Anfield.
David Ornstein reports:
“Newcastle United have seen an improved bid for forward Yoane Wissa rejected by Brentford.”
“The proposal was worth £35million plus £5m in difficult-to-achieve add-ons but turned down.”
“Brentford sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity as they were not authorised to discuss the situation, have stressed that the club have not provided a target price to any team.”
This development is far from positive for interested clubs, as Brentford reportedly remain resolute that the forward will not be sold unless their substantial valuation – believed to exceed £60 million – is met in full.
Wissa was left out of the squad for Brentford’s 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League opener and has been training separately from his teammates.
The Congo international has also removed all traces of Brentford off of his Instagram page, even going as far as to unfollow the club.
His arrival at St James’ Park would provide the cover Eddie Howe desperately needs after Callum Wilson’s departure and with Isak’s future remaining uncertain.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports have reported that Isak is, as expected, not in training in the build-up to facing Liverpool.
He is not expected to feature against the Reds at St James’ Park this coming Monday.
