Stephen Curry has acquired a deep level of expertise in health and wellness thanks to his decades of performing at a high level as an athlete. The legendary Golden State Warriors point guard is putting his knowledge and skills to use in a major way through his new partnership with Google. Today (Aug. 20), the company revealed Curry is officially joining Google as the new Performance Advisor as part of a long-term partnership spanning Google Health, Google Pixel and Google Cloud.
Through this role, the 4x NBA champ will work to elevate the sports and tech world by bringing a “unique perspective as a world-class athlete to help us fine-tune our products, train our algorithms and even design future hardware and features.” He and his team have already started working with health experts and product and AI engineers to test new products, provide feedback, and share their coaching methods and philosophies.
Additionally, after switching to to the entire Pixel portfolio, Curry and his team are utilizing AI from Google Cloud insights to elevate his on-court performance in an innovative way. AI insights will help “analyze his shot quality, sharpen his workout strategy and continue to develop as a player.” The new AI Basketball Coach experience incorporates Gemini models on Vertex AI and MediaPipe to provide personalized tips.
The new innovations were already seen in action last week in person. At the three-day Curry Camp, the MVP personally trained and guided 30 of the top student athletes from across the country, and Google’s AI tools were put to good use.
Rishi Chandra, Google GM/VP, Health said of the partnership, “As a long-time Warriors fan, I’ve watched Stephen Curry’s exceptionality on the court. To now partner with him and infuse that same level of excellence into our product is a game-changer for Google and, even more importantly, for our users.”
Sarah Kennedy, VP, Marketing, Google Cloud also added, “This is a pivotal moment for sports and technology. Through our partnership with Stephen Curry, we’re bringing the power of AI with Google Cloud to enhance his performance on the court, in business and in his work with the community including Curry Camp. Tools like the AI Basketball Coach, powered by Gemini, are practical innovations that are redefining how athletes approach training, performance and recovery. We’re not just supporting today’s pros, we’re building the future of athletic training for the next generation of athletes.”
