Reported Liverpool target Rodrygo was an unused substitute for Real Madrid in their narrow La Liga opening victory over Osasuna on Tuesday night - and his reaction from the sidelines spoke volumes The Brazilian has been the subject of transfer speculation this summer, having fallen down the pecking order at the Bernabeu.

His minutes at the Club World Cup were limited, with just one start and a handful of substitute appearances. As a result, rumours in Spain this summer suggest the La Liga giants are open to a sale at the right price, though they seemingly won't force him out the door.

There have been conflicting reports over the player's willingness to seek a new challenge, despite being several years into his Real Madrid career.

On Tuesday, Alonso's side struggled to break the deadlock against Osasuna, but an early second-half penalty from Kylian Mbappe proved to be the difference.

When looking for someone to change the game, the Madrid boss instead turned to 21-year-old Gonzalo Garcia from the bench to help his side get over the line.

Rodrygo’s reaction to the substitution was captured on television as he warmed up on the sidelines and has since been shared by Spanish outlet AS.

The 24-year-old appeared visibly dejected upon realising he wouldn’t be coming on.

Alonso appeared unmoved when questioned about his decision post-match, telling reporters: “Rodrygo? Nothing is happening. I count on Rodrygo, of course. It’s just a game. This was my decision.”

Liverpool, along with Arsenal, are among the clubs to be tentatively linked with Rodrygo this summer, although no concrete interest has yet emerged from either side.
