Leeds United right-back Isaac Schmidt has agreed terms with Werder Bremen over a loan, but the Whites’ stance is that they need a replacement in the doors first.
The back end of the window is expected to see Leeds thrust into action to complete Daniel Farke’s squad ahead of the survival bid.
Attackers are on the agenda, but defensive depth behind Jayden Bogle and Gabriel Gudmundsson is required, despite both impressing against Everton on Monday night.

What’s the latest on Isaac Schmidt’s Leeds United loan exit to Werder Bremen?
Previously in the summer, Isaac Schimdt looked to be heading towards the exit door at Elland Road after Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg revealed that he had agreed personal terms to join Werder Bremen on loan.
Since then, there has yet to be a breakthrough between the two clubs on the structure of the deal, as discussions were ongoing regarding a buy option that the Bundesliga club wish to add on top.

Leeds’ reason for not yet sanctioning a deal for Schmidt to leave yet is because they intend to find a replacement before letting him leave, which looked to be Leicester City’s James Justin before his injury at the weekend muddied the waters.
Now, Plettenberg has since revealed that Werder Bremen are considering alternative options despite ongoing talks with United over Schmidt.
Bremen are also claimed to be interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt’s Elias Baum, a 19-year-old right-back that has also featured on the left side of defence like Schmidt, indicating they may be looking to force Leeds’ hand into a conclusion to these talks.
While Leeds insist on finding someone to take Schmidt’s place before proceeding, Bremen having a backup lined up may push talks along.
Isaac Schmidt needs to leave Leeds United to better his career, but Farke needs a replacement
It’s quite clear that Schmidt needs to be leaving Elland Road in order to further progress his career ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
He’s not going to play here and the AC Milan friendly showed he might not defensively be up to the task against top flight wingers – struggling a great deal with imminent Leeds signing Noah Okafor.
However, if he’s to leave for Bremen, a replacement is needed and Justin fits the bill as someone with Premier League experience and versatility to cover right and left-back.
