Dalot drops verdict on new Man Utd star Cunha with‘complete’ claim

Defender Diogo Dalot has hailed new team-mate Matheus Cunha, highlighting the attributes that make him a complete player.

Cunha joined from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth £62.5 million, becoming the 10th most expensive signing in Manchester United’s history.

The Brazilian has seemingly settled easily at United and has blown his new team-mates away, including fellow summer arrival Bryan Mbeumo.

Dalot, speaking in the club’s ‘First Impressions’ series, praised the former Wolves star and is optimistic that he will be a good addition to Man United.

He told manutd.com: “He is very funny and that shows his personality. He can be very funny at one time but when he goes onto the pitch, you can see that he has that fire inside. He is very mature at playing football.

“Sometimes people can misunderstand what he is outside and inside, but I would say that makes him even more complete as a person and as a player. He can have those moments where he can be bubbly and funny, and at the same time, he can be very serious and focused on what he has to do. He has very good qualities that he can bring to the team.”

Goalkeeper Tom Heaton has also been impressed with Cunha, stating, ‘I thought he was a top player, but he has gone beyond my expectations. ’

Cunha made his competitive debut in Man United’s opening Premier League game loss to Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday and shone with his display, despite starting the game as a striker.

He completed four of the six dribbles he attempted – the most in the fixture. He earned praise from international colleagues Bruno Guimaraes and Vinicius Jr for his display.

The 26-year-old’s ability to receive the ball between the lines to wreak havoc on opposition defences makes him a good fit for the number 10 role in manager Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 set-up.

United endured a terrible campaign last season, and fans will hope that Cunha’s quality and personality can help take the club to new heights this term.
