Arch Manning responds to comments from grandfather about his Texas future

Earlier this month, Archie Manning said that his grandson, Arch Manning, would not declare for the 2026 NFL draft and instead would remain at Texas next year.

Arch pushed back against that comment at his media availability on Wednesday.

“Yeah, I don’t know where he got that from,” Arch said. “He texted me and apologized about that. I’m really just taking it day by day right now.”

Archie told Texas Monthly magazine nearly two weeks ago that he had not spoken to his grandson about his decision for next year, but felt strongly that he would stay with the Longhorns for the 2026 season.

Arch was the No. 1 prospect coming out of Isidore Newman School in New Orleans in 2023, and he’s preparing to step into the starting role in the upcoming 2025 season.

Arch spent the last two seasons as backup to quarterback Quinn Ewers. In 2024, he threw for 939 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions.

Arch will open up this season as Texas’ starting quarterback against Ohio State on Aug. 30.
