PSG vs. Angers - prediction, team news, lineups

Angers travel to Parc des Princes on Friday to face defending Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, aiming to end a run of 18 consecutive defeats against the European champions.

Despite no pre-season action, Luis Enrique’s team began their league campaign with a victory at Nantes in the opening gameweek, and they take on another side to secure maximum points in round one in their first home fixture of 2025-26.

Match preview

Although Enrique stated in the lead-up to the season that PSG’s first few competitive fixtures would compensate for their lack of pre-season games, the Parisians had enough to beat Nantes last time out.

Regardless of being underprepared, the European champions dominated the Canaries in the 1-0 victory, allowing only five shots on their goal — zero of which found the target — while attempting 18 shots themselves.

Even though clear-cut chances were at a premium, the Club World Cup runners-up were never in real danger of dropping points as they returned to top-flight action after claiming the European Super Cup at Tottenham Hotspur's expense.

Aiming to maintain their Ligue 1 winning streak, fans of the defending champions will expect maximum points on Friday, given their team's historical dominance in this fixture, having won 18 matches in a row against Angers across all competitions, with their last slip-up coming in a goalless encounter in December 2015.

The corresponding fixture last season ended 1-0 in PSG’s favour; however, the final score did not reflect the Parisians’ dominance — Ligue 1 giants outshot Angers 20-4 — and the fact that Enrique’s men had the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Aston Villa just four days after facing Le SCO.

Travelling Angers supporters will not only be aware of their team having failed to defeat the Paris-based club since January 1975, amplifying their underdog status ahead of Friday's visit to Parc des Princes, but also their inability to score in back-to-back trips.

Alexandre Dujeux has been in situ for three of Angers' last defeats to this weekend's hosts, with two occurring at the hands of Enrique in 2024-25.

Despite Le SCO's historical struggles, last season's 14th-placed side enter gameweek two with some hope after starting the season with a 1-0 win over Ligue 1 returnees Paris FC.

Although they will face another club from the French capital, PSG are giants in the league, while last weekend's match saw them face a club returning to the top flight after 46 years.

The win was far from easy, however, as the Black and Whites saw debutant Louis Mouton sent off for a straight red card after 57 minutes; nonetheless, Angers’ disciplined rearguard meant that 12 of Paris FC's 17 attempts came from outside the box.

While that defensive resilience was commendable, Dujeux’s team must perform even better on Friday to improve their chances of avoiding a 19th straight defeat against the European champions.

Although PSG came through their win over Nantes unscathed, Enrique may be without Presnel Kimpembe (virus) and Senny Mayulu (thigh); Gianluigi Donnarumma remains ostracised, meaning new goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier will make his Parc des Princes debut.

The Spanish manager left out Marquinhos, Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue, Nuno Mendes and Achraf Hakimi from the starting lineup in Nantes, but all six could return for the defending league champions.

However, the PSG boss might face a tough choice, considering that Bradley Barcola and Lee Kang-in both scored braces against Le SCO last season, albeit at Stade Raymond Kopa, with Joao Neves, back from suspension, pushing for a start at Lee’s expense.

Esteban Lepaul was the match-winner for Angers in gameweek one, continuing his form from last season, where he was the club’s top scorer with nine league goals.

However, the Black and Whites must make do without the banned Mouton and last season's second-highest scorer, Himad Abdelli, who scored six goals in 2024-25.

Paris Saint-Germain possible starting lineup:

Chevalier; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Lee, Vitinha, Ruiz; Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia

Angers possible starting lineup:

Koffi; Camara, Arcus, Lefort; Raolisoa, Capelle, Belkebla, Hanin; Belkhdim, Cherif; Lepaul

We say: Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 Angers

Despite PSG’s lack of pre-season matches, the superior quality of the European champions and the expected return of their key players at both ends of the pitch point to a comfortable home win for Enrique’s side over Angers.
