Leon Bailey injured in first AS Roma training session – Aston Villa player faces spell on sidelines

Leon Bailey flew out to Italy on Tuesday to begin his new life at AS Roma, with Aston Villa agreeing to loan the 28-year-old for the rest of the season.

There were fans waiting at the airport for the player and he played along by giving it Forza Roma and gesturing towards those who were waiting for him. His agent has talked up what the Aston Villa can bring to the Serie A side this season, and fans have been eager to see him get going.

Unfortunately, it looks like they’re going to have to wait a little longer than they assumed. Rome newspaper Il Messaggero report the Jamaican has suffered an injury during his first training session with the Italian club.

He’s picked up a muscle injury and Roma are set to conduct tests tomorrow to find out the extent of the damage. As a guess, Il Messaggero say it may be three weeks as long as the tests don’t show a tear.

Bailey is staying at the club’s Trigoria training centre, as he settles in following his arrival from Aston Villa.
