As Boston Legacy FC prepares for its on-field launch in 2026, the NWSL expansion team announced some high-profile advisors who will help provide “strategic guidance” as the club takes its first steps.
Former US national team stars and World Cup winners Sam Mewis and Kristine Lilly are among the “Athlete Advisory Board” announced by the Legacy on Wednesday. The board also includes WNBA All-Star Aliyah Boston of the Indiana Fever, as well as retired WNBA player and Celtics executive Allison Feaster. Each member of the group has local connections to the area.
The board will “provide strategic guidance on player initiatives, and elevate the overall player experience,” according to the team’s announcement.
It represents another building block as the club continues to get ready for its inaugural campaign.
“Growing up playing soccer in the Boston area, so much of my soccer career was shaped by the people and organizations in Massachusetts. I’m looking forward to supporting my hometown club, and helping BLFC set the standard for player care by sharing my experience and insight,” said Mewis, who is a Hanson native.
The purpose of the board, according to Legacy FC controlling owner Jennifer Epstein, is to help keep the focus on the players.
“This accomplished group brings unparalleled insight from the highest levels of professional sports and will play a key role in ensuring that athlete voices guide decisions across the club,” said Epstein in the team’s statement.
Along with the soccer-specific expertise of Mewis and Lilly, Feaster and Boston add additional leadership. In Boston’s case, she is also a member of the club’s investor group.
“Boston Legacy is more than just a football club — it’s about community, pride, and creating something lasting for the city. I believe in what this club stands for and I want to be part of the foundation that guides its future,” the Worcester Academy graduate said.
Simultaneous to building its front office and organization, the Legacy continue to assemble its roster ahead of the 2026 kickoff. The club has so far signed six players.
