Nottingham Forest have moved to within touching distance of welcoming Douglas Luiz to the City Ground as GIVEMESPORT senior reporter Fabrizio Romano has revealed that a deal has been agreed with Serie A heavyweights Juventus and he could undergo medical tests within the next 24 hours.
Having improved his attacking options with the additions of Omari Hutchinson and James McAtee, in deals worth up to £67.5million when combined, Tricky Trees head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has edged towards bringing in another presence in the middle of the park ahead of facing Crystal Palace this weekend.
Tricky Trees Prepare to Complete Luiz Swoop
Douglas Luiz in action for Juventus
Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal worth close to £26million for Luiz, GMS journalist Romano has confirmed on social media, and plans were put in place for him to travel to the Midlands on Wednesday ahead of potentially starting his medical on Thursday if documents are exchanged in time.
The Tricky Trees have won the race for the Brazil international, who has been described as 'world-class' by former Aston Villa teammate John McGinn, after it became clear that he is not at the forefront of Juventus' thoughts despite him only heading to Italy a little over 12 months ago.
Luiz, who is on his way to Nottingham Forest after Romano used his trademark 'here we go' catchphrase to announce that terms had been negotiated, has opted to walk away from the Allianz Stadium despite still having four years remaining on a contract which allows him to pocket more than £150,000-per-week when bonuses are triggered.
The central midfielder joined the Bianconeri for in the region of £42million in June 2024, highlighting that his current employers are prepared to take a loss in order to get him off their books, and he is poised to return to the Premier League after previously having spells with Aston Villa and Manchester City.
Nottingham Forest are preparing to compete in the Europa League - following Crystal Palace's unsuccessful appeal against being demoted from the competition - and Luiz will be tasked with using his experience as he competes with the likes of Elliot Anderson, Nicolas Dominguez and Ryan Yates for regular game time.
GMS sources recently revealed that West Ham United were shut down by Juventus when they attempted to negotiate a loan deal for the 27-year-old, while Manchester United and Aston Villa have also been showing interest, but the Tricky Trees are on course to confirm his arrival in the coming days.
