Former CBS NFL analyst Phil Simms, who won a pair of Super Bowls as the quarterback of the New York Giants, has landed a new broadcasting gig.
Simms has been hired by NBC Sports to call college football games this fall, the network has announced.
The MVP of Super Bowl XXI, Simms will serve as an analyst for multiple Big Ten games on Peacock, alongside play-by-play man Paul Burmeister. Simms’ first game with Peacock will be on Aug. 29 when Illinois hosts Western Illinois.
“I am very happy to be working again for NBC Sports doing college football games,” Phil Simms said in a statement. “I have had a great relationship with Paul Burmeister over many years so I know it going to be fun and exciting to work with him.
“I appreciate NBC for giving me this opportunity and I can’t wait for the college football season to start.”
Simms will also be on the call for the Miami (OH) at Rutgers game on Saturday, Sept. 6. Future games will be announced at a later date.
Phil Simms played college football at Morehead State, before being selected by the Giants in the first round of the 1979 NFL Draft.
He had a legendary career with the Giants, making the Pro Bowl twice, in addition to his two Super Bowl wins. He still holds the record for the best completion percentage in a Super Bowl at 88 percent.
Simms previously worked as an NFL analyst for NBC Sports from 1995-98, before joining CBS. He was with CBS from 1998 through the 2023 season, calling multiple Super Bowls during that time.
Now he is returning to NBC Sports.
“We’re excited to welcome Phil back to the NBC Sports team,” NBC Sports Executive Producer Sam Flood said in a statement. “Phil is an elite analyst who gives the viewers the why of the game, while making sure to entertain. We are looking forward to having him back on the call for Peacock.”
