Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola has provided an update on the situation of Antony, who remains owned by Manchester United.
[Speaking on his YouTube channel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5KL1Wb2F-Q&ab_channel=CanaldoNicola), he explained that speculation about a possible return to Brazil with Botafogo or São Paulo has no foundation.
Nicola revealed that he spoke on Wednesday morning with the Manchester United player’s agent, Júnior Pedroso, who is currently in Europe working to secure Antony’s next move.
According to him, a return to Brazilian football is not part of the winger’s career plan at this stage. Nicola added that John Textor previously made contact in an attempt to explore a deal for Botafogo, but nothing materialised, while São Paulo are aware of the financial reality and did not even ask for details.
Antony was signed by Manchester United for €100m, and while his current value is estimated closer to €60m, the focus is on keeping him in Europe. Nicola notes that clubs from Saudi Arabia did approach with offers, but all were rejected by the player.
The journalist claims that the likeliest outcome at this point is Antony returning Real Betis, where he spent last season on loan. The Brazilian had what Nicola described as “interesting numbers”, recording 26 appearances, nine goals and six assists.
However, Real Betis don’t appear prepared to make a reasonable offer.
