The "Cooper Flag Show" was stationed in Durham, North Carolina, this past season, as the former freshman put together one of the strongest individual seasons in recent college basketball history.
Now, it will be heading to Texas, the first stop on Flagg's professional basketball journey, after the Dallas Mavericks selected him No. 1 overall in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Just two months removed from making his debut in the league, Flagg received strong praise from recently-retired superstar Blake Griffin, as stamps of approval from notable sports figures continue to roll in.
Griffin believes Flagg is the NBA's "most complete" rookie "in recent memory"
Griffin has been in Flagg's shoes before. In 2009, Griffin was also a first overall pick in the NBA Draft. The Los Angeles Clippers selected him there after he spent two years playing at Oklahoma.
So, too, are former WNBA superstar Candace Parker and current Indiana Fever forward Aliyah Boston, who co-host the "Post Moves with Candace Parker & Aliyah Boston" show.
Griffin appeared as a guest in the Aug. 20 edition of the show, and the three former No. 1 overall draft selections ventured their way to a discussion about Flagg. The 2011 Slam Dunk Contest champion and six-time All-Star made sure to give his flowers to the Mavericks rookie.
"I think he's the most complete player that we've seen come into the NBA in recent memory," Griffin said. "I'm not saying he doesn't have room to grow — he still has a ton of room to grow — but he passes, he shoots, he defends, he rebounds. He seems like a great teammate, seems like a great kid.
"What's the red flag? Which is really exciting for basketball to have these young guys. I mean, even Wemby [Victor Wembanyama] — [he's] very complete, as well. But Cooper is able to play so many different positions, guard so many different positions, that it's exciting."
Griffin also believes that Flagg, unlike most first-overall picks, will be set up for success with the Mavericks, a team that boasts the likes of Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, Dereck Lively II and P.J. Washington on its roster.
"I also love that he's in Dallas. I think they have a really solid team around him," Griffin said. "Most number-one picks are going to teams that haven't been doing too great in the past. But I'm just excited for him to to start this journey. I don't even know if I have advice for him because seems like kid’s got it figured out."
That NBA journey will begin on Oct. 22, when the Mavericks will take on Wembanyama's San Antonio Spurs squad at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. The game is slated for a national television slot on ESPN at 9:30 p.m. ET.
