MORE: UCF Legend Alex Haynes Talks Growth of Knights Football, Son Following in His Footsteps
Mike Sims-Walker - Football
An Edgewater High School graduate, Sims-Walker had a strong career with the Knights from 2003 to 2006. His senior season in 2006 still holds the record for most receptions (90) in a single campaign. His 1,178 yards that year are the fifth most in a single season at UCF. He was a first-team All-CUSA selection that year before being selected in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Sims-Walker went on to a four-year career in the NFL.
Alex Haynes - Football
An Orlando native, Haynes helped UCF football transition from an FBS independent to their time in the Mid-American Conference. In his time with the Knights, Haynes carried the ball 742 times (today the second-most rushes in program history) for 3359 yards, today the third-most by a Knights running back. Haynes' 2004 campaign remains one of the best individual seasons by a running back in UCF history, rushing 215 times with five games where he went over 100 yards rushing.Aurieyall Scott - Track & Field
An Atlanta native, Scott delivered UCF's first national championship in any sport when she claimed first place in the 60-meter dash at the 2013 NCAA Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship with a time of 7.13 seconds. Miriam Metzcus-Ochoa - Women's Volleyball
Metzcus was an All-Atlantic Sun First-Team Selection three times in 1992, 1993, and 1994. She was also named to the All-Atlantic Sun Tournament team in both 1993 and 1994, both years the Knights won the event. UCF went on to an NCAA Tournament berth in 1994, their first appearance as a Division I institution. At one time, Metzcus held the program record for kills in a single match with 36 (vs. FIU, September of 1994) and digs in a single match with 35 (vs. FIU, October of 1994). Her 648 kills and 572 digs in the 1993 season set new program records, which have since been overtaken. She remains the program's career leader in aces with 235, and was once the program's leader in career digs with 1,644. She is one of four former Knights to have participated in USA Volleyball National Team Trials.
Cornell Green - Football
An offensive tackle from St. Petersburg, Florida, Cornell Green was a mainstay in UCF's first three seasons at the FBS level. Green's final season in Orlando saw the Knights pick up their first winning season at the FBS level, a 9-2 campaign under first-year head coach Mike Kruczek. Green signed with the Atlanta Falcons in 1999 and went on to an 11-season career in the National Football League that included winning Super Bowl XXXVII with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.Dexter Lyons - Men's Basketball (2002-2004)
Lyons began his college career at Daytona Beach Community College before spending his junior and senior seasons at UCF under had coach Kirk Speraw. The small forward led the Knights to their first NCAA Tournament berth in eight years at the end of the 2003-2004 season. That campaign saw UCF win 25 games, still their highest season total at the Division I level. Lyons earned First-Team All-Atlantic Sun Conference honors, was the A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year, and the A-Sun Tournament MVP. Lyons also led the Knights to the A-Sun Tournament Championship that season. He averaged 18.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.8 steals in the 2003-2004 season. Lyons is the owner of one four triple-doubles in UCF men's basketball history. He finished his UCF career shooting 55% from the floor.
