Lamar Jackson injury update: Latest news on Ravens QB after leaving practice early

Fresh off a career year with 45 total touchdowns, Lamar Jackson is as vital to the Ravens' success as ever. However, there could be some concern for the former MVP entering Week 1.

On Wednesday, Jackson reportedly left Baltimore's practice early with trainers after getting knocked down by a teammate.

While initial reports indicated it was a potential hand or wrist issue for Jackson, a Ravens spokesman then said the quarterback had his foot stepped on.

Lamar Jackson injury update

On Wednesday afternoon, The Athletic's Jeff Zrebiec was among those to report that Jackson had left the Ravens' practice early with strength & conditioning coach Scott Elliott. Zrebiec and others noted that Jackson had been "knocked down making a throw" by a teammate, and he stayed in for a few plays, but then "appeared to be flexing his hand/wrist."

However, a Ravens spokesman then said that Jackson had his foot stepped on, and he is "fine."

While multiple reporters indicated that Jackson was favoring his hand or wrist area, it's unclear whether his foot being stepped on was an additional issue, or the only cause of concern.

Wide receiver Tylan Wallace said he figured Jackson was "resting his arm" when he noticed he was absent from practice.

"I didn't really notice it," Wallace said. "I'm sure, Lamar being Lamar, he'll be back soon, before we know it."

Given the team's response in saying the quarterback is "fine," the level of concern for Jackson likely is not high, especially with Week 1 still over two weeks away. However, the situation will certainly be worth monitoring, with Jackson being imperative to Baltimore's offense for years now.

Ravens QB depth chart

Rank Player

1 Lamar Jackson

2 Cooper Rush

3 Devin Leary

Jackson's injury appears to be minor, but should it be more drastic than expected, or if he winds up missing any time throughout the 2025 season, the Ravens' backup quarterback is Cooper Rush.

Rush joined the Ravens in the offseason following a long stint as a backup in Dallas. He's appeared in 35 career games for the Cowboys, throwing for a total of 3,463 yards with 20 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

2024 sixth-round pick Devin Leary, a Kentucky product, ranks third on Baltimore's depth chart. Leary has thrown for 96 yards in 2025 preseason action so far, but has yet to take any snaps in the regular season.
