Tottenham battle Chelsea for €30 million-rated Barcelona prospect, submit enquiry

Tottenham Hotspur are all set to battle it out with rivals Chelsea for the signature of Barcelona graduate Marc Casado.

According to Sport via SportWitness, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on acquiring the services of Marc Casado, who could be on the move in the final weeks of the transfer window. The North London club are all set to rival Chelsea in the pursuit of the Barcelona midfield sensation.

Casado has been a part of the Barcelona setup since 2016. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to the first team last summer. He was involved in a total of 36 matches in his debut campaign and even contributed towards seven goals in just over 2,400 minutes of first-team action.

A ligament injury forced him to miss a significant part of the second half of the season, and he eventually lost his place to Frenkie de Jong once the Dutch international returned to full fitness and form.

With De Jong ahead of the 21-year-old, Tottenham and Chelsea made approaches for the Spanish international at the start of the summer. However, Casado was not keen on leaving Barcelona and didn’t entertain any clubs.

London clubs could battle it out for Casado

Despite being turned down at the start of the window, the London clubs haven’t given up on their pursuit of the young midfield sensation. While Barcelona were not ready to negotiate his departure back then, they are in a difficult financial situation and need to raise funds to register a few of their players for the new season.

As a result, they might be open to a potential departure, and the report suggests they could accept an offer of around €30 million. However, the final call will rest on the player, who, for now, is fully committed to the Catalan giants. But since he doesn’t have a prominent role in the team, he could seriously consider moving to London.

The Europa League winners are desperate to have a new number six, and Thomas Frank would love to work with someone with Casado’s abilities. Meanwhile, the 21-year-old is a perfect fit for Chelsea’s project, which revolves around signing the best young players.

Both Barcelona and the player’s camp are aware of the amount of interest in the Spanish international, and it will be interesting to see if there is any movement on this front in the coming days.
