The New York Jets are reportedly on a search for wide receiver help.
The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported this morning that the Jets, along with the Minnesota Vikings and San Francisco 49ers, are "monitoring the trade marketĀ for potential wide receiver additions." While their current receiving core leaves a lot to be desired, they do at least have one star in Garrett Wilson. But every Batman needs a Robin, and that's exactly what New York needs to be looking for.
The Green Bay Packers are a team with a plethora of wide receiver talent, considering how much draft capital they've invested in the position over the last few years. Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, and Matthew Golden were all selected in either the first or second round, and players like Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks have flashed as well. But there may be one too many mouths to feed in Green Bay, and the Jets should be all over whoever is the odd man out.
Jets Take a Swing on Romeo Doubs to Improve WR Room
---------------------------------------------------
Doubs, at least throughout the 2024 season, seemed like he was on the outside looking in on the Packers. The Nevada product was suspended for the team's Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Rams for conduct detrimental to the team. Doubs was reportedly upset with the number of targets he was receiving and stormed out of practice. Now, he is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and it seems unlikely Green Bay will give him an extension.
This is where the Jets can swoop in, buying low on a young wideout with upside. Mike Luciano [proposed a hypothetical trade](https://lombardiave.com/packers-trade-idea-would-send-fourth-round-pick-romeo-doubs-packing) for lombardiave.com:
New York Jets receive: Romeo Doubs
Green Bay Packers receive: 2026 sixth-round pick, 2027 fourth-round pick
While New York shouldn't be in the business of forking up draft capital as they enter a new era under first-time head coach Aaron Glenn, they are in desperate need of help at the wide receiver position, and should want to surround Justin Fields with as much talent as possible to be competitive.
"The Jets plan to be a run-first team in 2025, as they showed in their preseason win against Green Bay." Wrote Luciano. "However, Allen Lazard's shoulder injury leaves Josh Reynolds and seldom-used Tyler Johnson as the next two wide receivers on the depth chart behind standout star Garrett Wilson."
If the Jets are serious about finding weapons on offense, they're going to have to be aggressive and be willing to part with draft assets to better their team. It's all about establishing a winning culture in New York right now, and winning football games is the first step.
