UTAH VALLEY OPENS UCCU STADIUM WITH A BIG WIN
Following the cancellation of the match against Idaho State on Thursday, Utah Valley debuted its brand new UCCU Stadium on Monday night as the Wolverines hosted Utah for its new season-opening match. In front of a crowd of over 4,000 fans, the Wolverines defeated the Big 12 team 2-0 for the second straight year. Ruby Hladek had the honor of scoring the first goal in the new stadium as she put UVU on the board quickly in the third minute of the match.
UTAH TECH SHUTS OUT UC RIVERISDE
Utah Tech picked up its first win of the season on Sunday as the Trailblazers defeated UC Riverside 2-0 in their home opener. Kyah Le got Utah Tech on the board early with a goal in the seventh minute and Jocelyn Wright recorded her first career collegiate goal in the 72nd minute. The Trailblazer defense limited UCR to just four shots in 90 minutes.
REYNOLDS PROVIDES THE OFFENSE FOR TARLETON STATE
Tarleton State scored a total of three goals from opening week and all three came courtesy of this week’s WAC Offensive Player of the Week, Stevie Reynolds. Reynolds recorded the game-winning goal versus UTRGV and notched a brace against Houston Christian. Reynolds is currently the only WAC player with multiple goals and is one of 20 players nationally to have three or more goals. Reynolds now holds the second most career goals in the Texans’ program history.
NO GETTING BY THE WOLF
Utah Valley was able to shut out Utah for a season-opening win following a strong performance in the box from this week’s WAC Goalkeeper of the Week, Leah Wolf. Wolf was able to keep the Utes out of the net as she recorded her second career shutout, tallying 11 saves on the night. The 11 saves were the most in the WAC in week one and tied for the fourth most in a single match in UVU history.
