The Carolina Panthers have signed quarterback Bryce Perkins just days before the Pittsburgh Steelers head to Charlotte for their final preseason game. Panthers backup quarterback Andy Dalton suffered an elbow injury, meaning he could miss Thursday’s game.
Perkins is coming off a fantastic season with the Michigan Panthers. He was the United Football League MVP, and led the Panthers to the UFL Championship before being defeated by the DC Defenders.
Perkins had 1342 passing yards and 269 rushing yards with 4 total touchdowns in seven games with the Panthers. In his postseason starts, he racked up 576 passing yards and five more touchdowns through the air.
An undrafted free agent out of Virginia in the 2020 NFL Draft, Perkins started his career with the Los Angeles Rams. He spent the first three seasons of his career there before being let go after the 2022 season.
The Steelers hosted him for a rookie minicamp tryout shortly after that, but never signed Perkins. Instead, he looked to the UFL as his next place, and joined the Panthers in 2024 as their backup quarterback before ascending to the starting role in 2025.
Now, Perkins will have a chance to showcase what he can do with the Panthers on Thursday against the Steelers, and hopes he can find his way back into the NFL.
