Vikings trade defensive tackle Harrison Phillips to the Jets as roster cutdown day nears

The Vikings are trading defensive tackle Harrison Phillips to the New York Jets in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-rounder, according to a source with knowledge of the deal.

The team will also send a 2027 seventh-round pick to New York in the deal.

Phillips was scheduled to make $7.4 million this season; the Vikings will pick up half of his salary for this season, while clearing $3.7 million of cap space for 2025. They’ll save $7.5 million in cap space for 2026.

Phillips, 29, is entering his eighth NFL season. The Vikings signed him as a free agent before the 2022 season. He started every game the past three seasons and was a team captain last year.

Jalen Redmond, last year’s standout former XFL defender who earned a roster spot and a role, is a virtual lock to make the initial 53-man roster next Tuesday, and second-year Levi Drake Rodriguez and [Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, the rookie fifth-round pick](https://www.startribune.com/minnesota-vikings-training-camp-nfl-preseason-rookie-tyrion-ingram-dawkins/601454379), also appear likely to make the team. Taki Taimani, the undrafted nose tackle who made the team last year, appeared to be on the bubble, as well as Elijah Williams, who earned a contract during a rookie minicamp tryout, and former Broncos veteran Jonathan Harris.
