The Skyy Moore era ended on a high note in Kansas City.
According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Chiefs have a trade in place to send wide receiver Moore and their seventh-round pick in the 2027 draft to San Francisco for the 49ers’ sixth-round selection.
Moore was selected by the Chiefs in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but he was plagued by dropped passes and injuries during his three seasons with KC.
Moore did produce some memorable moments. His punt return in the AFC Championship Game in 2022 helped set up a game-winning field goal at the final gun against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Two weeks later, Moore caught a touchdown pass as the Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.
The Chiefs’ preseason loss at Seattle on Friday was a microcosm of Moore’s tenure with the team. Moore dropped two passes during the game before ripping off an 88-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Moore was in a battle for a spot on this season’s roster. The Chiefs are deep at wide receiver, with Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster and rookie Jalen Royals looming as roster locks.
If the Chiefs keep six or seven receivers, Moore would’ve been competing with Nikko Remigio and Tyquan Thornton, among others, for a place on the 53-man roster.
Moore’s three-year Chiefs career ends with 33 receptions and one regular-season touchdown.
The 49ers’ wide receiver corps is thin. Brandon Aiyuk is coming back from an ACL recovery and won’t be ready until October, while former Chiefs receiver DeMarcus Robinson is facing a three-game suspension, per Ari Meirov.
Each NFL team’s 53-man roster must be finalized by Tuesday at 3 p.m. Central Time. The Chiefs must cut down from 90 players to a final 53 while also putting together a practice squad and keeping an eye on the waiver wire for potential trade opportunities.
