Stephen Curry uses Google Cloud's 'AI Basketball Coach' during annual youth camp

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) --Stephen Curry has achieved a level of success on the basketball court that most can only dream of. This month, during his annual Curry Camp powered by Under Armour, dozens of the top high school basketball players in the country arrived in the Bay Area and received the opportunity of a lifetime to learn from the four-time NBA Champion and future hall of famer. Since 2015, Curry has been "changing the game for good," a slogan that could be found on the banners hanging in Arrillaga Family Gym in Menlo Park, as Steph is helping guide the next generation of hoopers at his annual camp.

"It's a big blessing for me just learning from unarguably the greatest shooter of all-time, a top five player in my opinion," said Curry Camp participant Baba Oladotun.

"I really just want to learn anything I can from the best players in the nation and Steph one of the best players ever," added Curry camper Bella Flemings.

The three-day camp begin it's tour in the Bay Area and has produced quite a list of notable alumni over the last decade, like Minnesota Timberwolves all-star and fellow Team USA Olympian Anthony Edwards.

ABC7 Sports Director Larry Beil sat down with Warriors superstar Stephen Curry in a one-on-one interview.

"Like those clips, Ant Edwards, a guy like Cooper Flagg who came in two years ago, both number one picks," said Stephen Curry. "We were a small part of their journey, just in the sense of putting them in an environment where they where they can continue to showcase their skill and maybe learn a little something from me from the sessions where they were here."

During day one of Bay Area Curry Camp, Steph unveiled Google Cloud's 'AI Basketball Coach' where campers took a variety of shots using a motion capture system, analyzing mechanics, providing video feedback in real time.

"There was like 10 different breakdown points, if you just look at one of those things. Your knee bend if you are missing, your arc if your shot is flat, if your follow through is too flat it tells you that," said former camper and Curry Brand Athlete Azzi Fudd. "Those are easy points, you can be like, now it's pointed this out I can fix that."

The all-time NBA three-point leader went through the drill himself and found the visual component helpful, especially for players attending his camp.

"If you can actually see that on the (video) screen with the metrics beside it and how quickly they can turn it around, pretty cool stuff," said Curry. "For these kids especially, I think it opens up their world to what's possible."

In addition to using the latest technology, campers received instruction from Curry's former college coach Bob McKillop and his personal trainer Carl Bergstrom.

Small Bay Area brand LACES has gone viral thanks to Warriors' Stephen Curry, who was seen courtside sporting their upside down logo hat.

"Being able to be in this camp, see the cool technologies that are here, understand how he (Stephen) is utilizing it," said Bergstrom. "But also, just being here, having him work the drills, ask questions, watch his body of work, his intent, it's infectious. Being able to just sit and watch by itself is worth it's weight in gold."

"I'm blessed to have had this camp and so many talented men and women come through and hopefully that roster of pros continues to grow," said Curry.
