Arsenal could sign £34m Ligue 1 winger after Eze

Arsenal are keen on signing Lyon winger Malick Fofana, as per L’Equipe.

The Gunners have shown plenty of ambition this summer, and they have already made six signings.

The club are also on the cusp of landing Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze.

Eze was close to joining north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, but the Gunners have hijacked the deal.

L’Equipe now claim that Arsenal may not be done with their transfer business and could still sign Fofana.

Fofana is expected to leave Les Gones amid their financial concerns.

The Ligue 1 outfit need to recoup another £34m from player sales and value Fofana at the same price.

Everton tried to sign the left-sided winger earlier this summer, but the Belgian was not keen.

He has his sights on joining a Champions League club instead before the transfer deadline.

Arsenal and Bayern have him on their shortlist and could accelerate during the last days of the window.

Arsenal unlikely to move for Fofana

The 20-year-old had a good breakthrough season with Lyon last campaign. He registered 11 goals and six assists from 41 appearances across all competitions.

Fofana also caught the eye with his defensive work rate as well as his dribbling skills. He looks a bright prospect, but an Arsenal approach would be a surprise.

The Gunners have made a huge outlay of £200m on new signings, and they are set to commit to another £68m for the acquisition of Eze from the Eagles soon.

Eze is primarily an attacking midfielder who can operate from the left wing. Arsenal may see him as a left-wing solution, with Martin Odegaard being an undisputed starter in the no.10 role.

This should pretty much rule out a move for Fofana, considering Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard are also specialists in the position. The latter has just agreed to improved salary terms.

In our view, the speculation could be agent-driven. Bayern are likely seeking another wide player, and Fofana’s representative could be using Arsenal’s name to speed up discussions.
