Leeds United marked their return to the Premier League with a 1-0 triumph over Everton at a vibrant Elland Road on Monday evening.
Despite Daniel Farke's side demonstrating greater attacking intent throughout the match, it was a penalty that ultimately swung the balance. Substitute Lukas Nmecha, making his Premier League debut, coolly slotted home the penalty with just six minutes left on the clock, triggering wild celebrations.
This victory gives Leeds an early lift of three points, with Farke's team next facing a challenging visit to Arsenal on Saturday evening. With the transfer window remaining open until September 1, there is scope for further reinforcements to strengthen their fight for Premier League survival.
Below are some of the latest media reports surrounding Leeds - along with a view on each one.
Striker blow
Leeds-linked Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz will reportedly be offered a new contract at Fulham.
“I am told that Muniz is one of Fulham’s lowest paid players, he is very much due a new contract, and Marco Silva has made it clear to Fulham’s top brass he wants this sorting out," TBR Football's Graeme Bailey claims.
“Muniz wants to stay and pledge his future to Fulham.”
LeedsLive says: "Missing out on Muniz would not be a massive blow for the Whites. They appear to have strengthened well this summer, and I'm not sure the Fulham striker will be a significant improvement on what they already have."
Exit dismissed
Leeds United striker Joel Piroe has dismissed speculation over a return to PSV Eindhoven this summer.
“It would be great to return to PSV someday,” he told Voetbal International. “But not right now. I’m not thinking about leaving, or what’s going on at other clubs. All I want is to perform with Leeds in the Premier League.
“I understand that a few other clubs approached me in the summer. But the club didn’t want to let me go, and I don’t want to leave at all.
“I want to prove myself in this league. Sunday’s away game against Arsenal, that’s what I’m looking forward to.”
LeedsLive says: " I'm sure most Leeds fans will be pleased to hear this, as Farke does need plenty of options up front. The question will be whether he can adapt to the Premier League after such a good season in the Championship last term."
