Championship transfer round-up: Hayden Hackney saga takes new twists and Liverpool loanees poised

It’s all going on in the second tier this week as we close in on deadline day, so dive into our Championship transfer round-up for the biggest stories right now.

The season is now well and truly underway and teams in the Championship may well be starting to panic that they haven’t done enough shopping this summer.

That’s good news for anyone who loves transfer season (like us) as it means we can expect a whole host of big moves to keep coming before deadline day on the 1st of September.

In our latest Championship transfer round-up, there are updates on Hayden Hackney’s future, a look at all the Liverpool youth stars heading out on loan to the EFL, and a rundown of how Sheffield United, Norwich City, and Hull are operating in the final days of the window.

Championship transfer round-up: Middlesbrough ready for more Hayden Hackney bids

Hayden Hackney has been one of the most talked about players in the EFL this summer, and the saga surrounding his future took plenty more twists in the last 48 hours.

First of all, Rob Edwards insisted Hackney loves the club and appeared to play down the idea that the midfielder would leave.

Thanks to information from our Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey, though, we can exclusively reveal that Boro are braced for more bids for Hackney.

It sounds like Ipswich Town will be back again, although they are close to signing Philip Billing from Bournemouth which may end their pursuit of Hackney.

Liverpool youngsters set to flood the EFL

Liverpool could be feeding talent to a number of EFL clubs in the near future, it seems. First up, Lewis Koumas is wanted by Wrexham and Birmingham. That’s not necessarily new information, but there is now talk of a permanent move rather than a loan as previously suspected.

Elsewhere, Hull City and West Brom want to sign James McConnell, who was previously attracting attention from Swansea.

Speaking of Swansea, they’re fighting Derby County for Kaide Gordon. We are told half the Championship are interested, though.

Sticking with the Liverpool theme, it’s said QPR and Oxford United want Ben Davies. He’s a player Jurgen Klopp loved at Anfield, though he never really got a chance there.

Sheffield United are making moves

In our previous Championship transfer round-up, Sheffield United took centre stage as they looked to add to Ruben Selles’ squad.

That’s really taking shape now, with lots of movement in the last 24 hours. First of all, as suspected, Ben Godfrey is about to sign for the Blades in a loan move from Atalanta. It’s thought Millwall ace Japhet Tanganga could soon follow, too.

A deal is in place with Atalanta to bring Ben Godfrey on-loan whilst they are also advancing in talks with Millwall to sign Japhet Tanganga.

There’s also good news in that Gus Hamer is staying at United. The Blades appear to have missed out on Oliver Sorensen, who was originally touted as a Hamer replacement. He’s joined Parma instead.

Championship transfer round-up: Kellen Fisher, Leicester City, Tom Fellows and more

We conclude our Championship transfer round-up with a quick sweep of the best of the rest.

First of all, Norwich may well lose Kellen Fisher to either Everton or Nottingham Forest. The full-back has long had admirers in the top flight and it sounds like they’re ready to strike.

Bilal El Khannouss is about to seal a £32m move to Crystal Palace. The money raised there could see Leicester City swoop for Joao Rego.

Like Hayden Hackney, the Tyler Dibling saga continues. Everton are considering Tom Fellows as an alternative now.

And finally, a little more on Hull City. It’s said the Tigers want to borrow Besiktas man Amir Hadziahmetovic, with a loan move mooted.
