What Newcastle United’s improved Yoane Wissa bid means for Jorgen Strand Larsen and Wolves -…

Newcastle have raised their offer to Brentford for Yoane Wissa, amid links to Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

It’s clear Newcastle’s window is going to have a ripple effect throughout the Premier League.

They are looking to have two quality strikers in their attack for the season ahead. With Callum Wilson gone, they need to buy at least one.

But depending on what happens in the biggest story of the summer, Alexander Isak’s links to Liverpool, Newcastle’s business could still be far from over.

Yoane Wissa joining Newcastle might not save Wolves from Jorgen Strand Larsen leaving

It would be like Wolves to get entwined in the most dramatic transfer saga of the summer.

Signing Yoane Wissa is a necessity for Newcastle and is seen as the solution to that second striker spot. Wissa’s ability to play on the wing plays into it as well.

But if Isak’s wishes are granted, the Magpies will need another centre-forward, and Eddie Howe has his eye on Jorgen Strand Larsen.

MORE WOLVES STORIES

Don’t be mistaken, the acquisition of Wissa would be a good thing for two reasons.

The first is that it means Newcastle would be on the hunt for a maximum of one striker, and zero if Isak stays. This should make Wolves fans relax ever so slightly and wait for an update on the Swede’s future.

And the second reason…

Keeping Jorgen Strand Larsen and Brentford losing Yoane Wissa is huge for the relegation battle

Wolves have been tipped for a relegation scrap by nearly every football pundit who has been asked, and even Wolves fans can see why the lack of new signings and a poor pre-season could suggest that this season may be a struggle.

But another team who have been forecast down around the bottom five are Brentford. Manager Thomas Frank, star player Bryan Mbeumo, captain Christian Norgaard, and possibly Wissa is a lot to lose in one summer. More even than Wolves have suffered.

This season’s promoted sides look stronger than in previous years, and it’s not crazy to think one could buck the recent relegation trend.

If Brentford are to lose their main source of goals, they could be in serious trouble. If Newcastle lose Isak and swoop for Strand Larsen as well, we’ll be right there with them.
