Leon Bailey is said to have endured a nightmare start to life at Roma.
The Aston Villa winger joined the Serie A club on loan on Wednesday, but it is understood he suffered an injury in his very first training session in Italy’s capital.
Il Messaggero report Bailey suffered a muscle injury and will undergo tests on the problem on Thursday to assess the damage.
Bailey is said to be "not optimistic" and is expected to be sidelined for three weeks.
The 28-year-old could sign for Roma permanently next summer as they hold an option to buy the Jamaica international for around £19 million.
Villa will receive a loan fee of roughly £2.5 million, taking the total potential value of the deal to £22 million.
Bailey joined Villa from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2021 for £30 million, as one of three signings brought in to replace Jack Grealish.
Villa also spent £60 million on Danny Ings and Emi Buendía that summer, with the latter still at the club.
Bailey made 144 appearances in all competitions for Villa, scoring 22 goals and providing 24 assists.
In the 2023/24 campaign, he contributed 28 goal involvements in 52 matches as Villa finished fourth in the Premier League and reached the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League.
