Man United star tipped to be 'best in world' already leads Premier League in key area

Manchester United produced one of the most impressive performances of the Premier League’s opening weekend but suffered defeat.

Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford was an unjust start to the season for Manchester United given the performance of Ruben Amorim’s side.

There were plenty of positives in United’s display, including impressive debuts from new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

The only thing lacking from the performance was goals, with shot-stopper David Raya making a league-topping seven saves during the match.

But one of United’s stars also leads the Premier League in an impressive statistic following the first matchweek.

Leny Yoro already dominating Premier League in key area

Ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, Ruben Amorim tipped Yoro to become one of the ‘best in the world’ if he continues on his promising trajectory.

The 19-year-old defender made an extremely bright start to his career in England last season, and he will hope to elevate his game to a new level this season.

It may only be one match into the season, but the signs are already promising. As per the Premier League, Leny Yoro is already topping the division for the most interceptions.

Against Arsenal, Yoro completed four interceptions, putting him joint top of the standings with Chelsea’s Reece James, Newcastle United’s Fabian Schar and Bournemouth’s Tyler Adams.

Rio Ferdinand raved about Yoro after his display against the Gunners, and the teenage defender seems to have cemented a spot in Amorim’s line-up for the new season.

Leny Yoro has already become a Man United mainstay

United’s depth in defence is mightily impressive heading into 2025/26, with Lisandro Martinez recovering from injury in the coming weeks.

Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire are duelling for the starting spot at the heart of the back three, while Luke Shaw, Noussair Mazraoui, Ayden Heaven and Tyler Fredricson are all providing competition for the outside defenders.

However, Yoro has cemented his spot at right centre-back, and he is quickly becoming one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Amorim has given unique instructions to Yoro to fully unlock and utilise his incredible talent. It is worth noting that Yoro also completed the most passes of any player for United against Arsenal.

In terms of controlling possession and breaking through defensive lines, Yoro has made himself a key player to Amorim and he is only going to get better with time.
