Medical scheduled today: Bayern miss out on Chelsea player

Bayern Munich have reportedly missed out on Chelsea defender Renato Veiga.

Veiga is out of favour under Enzo Maresca, and he is close to leaving the Blues to join La Liga side Villarreal.

Bayern are also interested in Chelsea attacker Christopher Nkunku, but the Blues are not willing to entertain any offers other than a permanent transfer.

Veiga joined Chelsea in 2024 from FC Basel on a seven-year deal, but he was loaned out in the January transfer window to Juventus.

The Portugal international made only 18 appearances for the Blues in all competitions, and the club has decided to offload him this summer.

Back in July, Fabrizio Romano reported that Bayern had added Veiga to their list of targets, but any potential incomings would depend on the future of Kim Min-jae.

TuttoMercato further added that Min-jae could be on his way out of the Allianz Arena, and Chelsea would be interested in signing him. Still, any potential swap deal did not materialise.

We reported that Bayern may need to pay a fee of around £30m to sign Veiga, who they consider as someone with “tremendous potential”.

He was linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, but the deal did not materialise either.

According to the latest report from Florian Plettenberg, Veiga is close to joining Villarreal.

The 22-year-old defender will sign a contract until 2032, and Chelsea have also secured a 40% sell-on clause.

The Yellow Submaries to pay a package of €30m, including bonuses. An agreement between Villarreal and Chelsea is done, and the medical is scheduled for Thursday.

Bayern seek options elsewhere

The Bavarian giants probably would have made a concrete attempt to sign Veiga had they lost any one of their current defenders, especially Min-Jae.

Max Eberl is focused on bolstering the forward department, and despite signing Luis Diaz from Liverpool, the German champions are looking to add one more player to their ranks.

Nkunku has been linked with a move to Bayern, but as of now, there has been no agreement. The Bundesliga champions are reportedly keen on Malick Fofana.
