Report: Roberto De Zerbi wants to sign 'brilliant' player from Liverpool after latest Arne Slot snub

Liverpool have undergone plenty of change this summer with several players being brought in.

Indeed, many have also been sold with the likes of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez among the biggest names to have exited Anfield.

While the Reds may now have one of the best teams in the world, due to the amount of change that has taken place, it could take some time for their first-team squad to properly gel.

This has been made more than clear with the Reds’ first two competitive games of the season being well below their usual standards.

And, since there’s still some time left in the transfer window for changes to be made, it doesn’t feel like the Anfield outfit are going to stop any time soon.

Kostas Tsimikas could be on his way to Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille

Kostas Tsimikas has always been a player that Liverpool can rely upon since he arrived at Anfield.

The left-back is now the club’s third-choice full-back after Milos Kerkez was brought in from Bournemouth at the start of the summer transfer window.

And now, as per a report from Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, De Zerbi now wants to add the Greek Scouser to his ranks.

The report outlines that Marseille are now ‘interested’ in the Greece international, with the defender now ‘on the way out’ of Anfield.

Indeed, this was to be expected, but after interest was shown in Andy Robertson at the start of the transfer window, it was unclear where the future would be headed for Tsimikas.

Kostas Tsimikas should seize this opportunity to earn some extra play time

As much as Tsimikas would likely want to stay at Liverpool and challenge for the Premier League again, it’s hard to see how he’d be given any game time with Kerkez, Robertson and Joe Gomez all ahead of him.

The left-back is still just 29 years old, which means that he’s just about to enter the prime years of his career.

Tsimikas has never complained about being the Reds’ second-choice left-back and was even dubbed “brilliant” by Michael Owen at one point.

However, since Kerkez is only 21 years old and Robertson only has a year left on his current deal, selling the Greek Scouser makes the most sense.

Of course, a loan move could also be an option, but if Tsimikas wants to get the best out of this next step in his career, he’s likely better off finding a permanent way out of Anfield this summer.
