Player to leave Aston Villa in ‘next few hours’ – Travelling for medical on Thursday

On Wednesday, we covered claims from Spain that Girona have made progress in their efforts to sign Aston Villa’s Àlex Moreno.

Later that day, Marca reported the La Liga club have secured a deal with the left-back and the move should be made official shortly.

AS also report Girona have a full agreement with the Aston Villa player and should make his signing official in the ‘next few hours’.

The Spaniard will replace Miguel Gutiérrez, who was sold to Napoli, and will compete with Daley Blind for the left-back position.

Moreno’s contract at Villa Park expires in 2026 and isn’t part of Unai Emery’s plans.

AS and Marca haven’t mentioned the formula in which the Catalan club sign the 32-year-old. Cadena Ser journalist Nil Solà, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to provide more on this.

According to Solà, the Spanish club have ‘closed deal’ to secure the Aston Villa fullback’s services.

He adds Moreno will join Girona on a free transfer and sign a contract until 2027. This means he will terminate his contract with the Villans before joining the La Liga side.

The former Real Betis man will arrive on Thursday to undergo medical tests with Girona.
