Arsenal have launched a bid for Eze

Arsenal's activity has slowed in recent weeks but Mikel Arteta remains committed to bolstering his squad before the transfer deadline day.

Several of his new summer signings made their Premier League debuts in the opening weekend victory at Manchester United, but there is still an appetite to add even more firepower despite the arrivals of Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke.

Eberechi Eze and Rodrygo are among the names being considered as Arteta aims to assemble a squad capable of ending their top flight drought. Crystal Palace are keen to retain their star player, although he appeared to be bidding farewell to the Eagles at the weekend.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, have a decision to make regarding Rodrygo, who is being monitored by several Premier League clubs. Here's the latest news involving the Gunners...

Kai Havertz is set to be sidelined for Arsenal after sustaining a new injury - which is likely to prompt the club into the market. The German spent a significant portion of last season out with a serious hamstring injury, reports the Mirror.

He has since bounced back and featured as a substitute in the weekend's triumph in Manchester, but the adaptable forward is now confronting another spell on the sidelines.

The Athletic reports that the German has sustained a knee problem and was absent from an open training session held at the Emirates on Wednesday.

Xabi Alonso addresses Rodrygo situation

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso maintains "nothing is happening" with Rodrygo despite keeping him on the substitutes' bench throughout their opening triumph against Osasuna at the weekend.

The Brazilian has been connected with a Bernabeu departure all summer, with Arsenal amongst the clubs most strongly associated. He has slipped down the hierarchy following Carlo Ancelotti's exit and was merely a fringe player during the Club World Cup campaign.

Alonso nevertheless insists he will turn to Rodrygo as this season progresses, downplaying the significance of omitting him.

The former Bayer Leverkusen manager told journalists: "Rodrygo? Nothing is happening. I count on Rodrygo of course. It's just a game, this was my decision."

According to The Athletic, Arsenal, who initially baulked at the £68million asking price, have now signalled their willingness to match the release clause in Eze's contract that expired on Friday.

The Gunners have long admired Eze but had recently cooled their interest, seemingly paving the way for Spurs to secure his signature. However, an injury to Kai Havertz has prompted a sudden re-entry into the race for the England international.
