Isak deal could trigger domino effect for PL strikers

Liverpool have been dealt a massive boost in their pursuit of Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak. This transfer saga has dragged on since the start of the summer window.

The Reds are now in a prime position to land Alexander Isak. The club have consistently attempted to sign the striker and even tabled a massive offer at the start of this month, only for the Magpies to turn it down.

Alexander Isak remains determined over a move to Anfield. The player has been exiled from the side and failed to feature in Newcastle United’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa.

Isak has been distant from the squad even during the preseason tour and summer break – the player was also spotted training at his former club Real Sociedad in Spain’s San Sebastian.

Situation at Anfield

The Reds have lavishly spent money in the transfer market, and one last obstacle awaits them in Alexander Isak. Liverpool must recruit a striker before the window comes to a close in 10 days or so.

Arne Slot is well aware of the situation after having let go of Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz. The club, unfortunately, also tragically lost forward Diogo Jota to a car accident that occurred in Spain.

The manager was in talks with the press before Liverpool’s league opener against Bournemouth. The manager has been quoted as saying by the Standard –

“I see Hugo mainly as a number nine that could also play from the left or play together with another number nine.

It’s clear that with Darwin gone and Luis Diaz gone, and even last season, we had five or six options. I think, again, Diogo, I need to mention him as well.

So yeah, we need to have one more attacker, at least.”

Newcastle eye signing two PL strikers if Isak goes

Credible sources confirm that the Magpies have given the nod internally to sanction the sale of Isak to Liverpool. However, Newcastle United will only proceed to do so if they are able to land at least two attackers at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United have been linked with moves for Brentford forward Yoane Wissa and Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen. The two deals could effectively cost Eddie Howe’s side north of £80 million in total.

Whether Newcastle can land both men depends on whether the other clubs especially Brentford can land replacements given they have already lost Bryan Mbeumo to Man Utd. Wolves also lost Matheus Cunha to Man Utd so one signing by the clubs could cause a domino effect down through the Premier League.
