With cutdown day looming, the Philadelphia Eagles’ final preseason game on Friday night against the New York Jets is important for those looking to make the 53-man roster.
Let’s take a look at the Eagles with the most to prove to Nick Sirianni and the coaching staff going into Philadelphia’s preseason finale at MetLife Stadium.
QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson: DTR’s fate might already be decided. The Eagles will carry only three quarterbacks. Jalen Hurts and Tanner McKee are locked in, leaving Thompson-Robinson and Kyle McCord battling it out. It hasn’t been much of a battle; neither have impressed.
But at least the Eagles used draft capital on McCord and would be theoretically more inclined to give him a shot to develop. Thompson-Robinson, after a rough preseason game against the Cleveland Browns last week, needs to reverse his fortunes on Friday.

WR Darius Cooper: I didn’t think I’d be saying this a couple weeks ago, but Cooper might be in danger of missing the roster. The undrafted rookie out of Tarleton State shined in the preseason opener with six catches for 82 yards and a touchdown. Cooper has impressed in practice, too, working with the first-team offense with the periodic absences of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.
But the addition of John Metchie III puts Cooper and Ainias Smith on shaky ground. Smith might be the team’s punt returner, which is something Cooper can’t fall back on.

EDGE Ogbo Okoronkwo: Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt are projected starters. Josh Uche appears to be the team’s third edge rusher, and Azeez Ojulari has played well recently. That would likely leave one spot for either Okoronkwo or Patrick Johnson. The latter has made big plays this preseason while the former hasn’t. Okoronkwo was signed just before training camp but hasn’t made his presence felt. Maybe he will against the Jets.

CB Kelee Ringo: It’s looking likely that Adoree’ Jackson or Jakorian Bennett — maybe even Cooper DeJean — will start on the outside opposite Quinyon Mitchell. The Eagles were hoping Ringo, the 2023 fourth-round pick, would emerge this summer. That hasn’t happened at all, recently being demoted in practice to third-team reps. Ringo’s roster spot isn’t in jeopardy, but he could be used as a trade chip. It’s up to him to prove that the Eagles need him.

CB Eli Ricks: No corner has been affected more by the Bennett addition than Ricks. Last Saturday was Bennett’s preseason debut after the Eagles acquired him from the Las Vegas Raiders. In the same game, Ricks played only 11 snaps in the fourth quarter. The former LSU and Alabama standout might have to ball out if he wants to avoid the practice squad.
