Pittsburgh Steelers lose out on another wide receiver trade

Another wide receiver trade has occurred and the Pittsburgh Steelers are not involved in it. The New Orleans Saints are sending a fourth and seventh round pick to the Denver Broncos for Devaughn Vele, according to multiple reports.

Vele, a seventh-round pick out of Utah in last year’s draft, became a reliable target in Sean Payton’s offense last season. However, the Saints’ offer plus others, such as Pat Bryant, standing out in training camp, has pushed him out of the organization.

The Steelers have not been shy in their willingness to go out and acquire a wide receiver, but only on their cost. That is why they have looked at someone like Gabe Davis, who would come on the veteran minimum.

Vele missed time in 2024 with a rib injury, but finished with over 400 yards in his first NFL season. Now, he will join the Saints as their WR4.

As for the Steelers, they will continue to look at free agent and trade options, and will likely add someone before their first game against the New York Jets on September 7, even with the emergence of Roman Wilson as someone they can trust.
