Pittsburgh Steelers waive blazing-fast linebacker from injured reserve

The Pittsburgh Steelers have reached an injury settlement with linebacker Devin Harper one day after he reverted to the team’s injured reserve list after being waived on Monday. In addition to Harper being removed from injured reserve, offensive tackle Gareth Warren cleared waivers and landed on the list after suffering a head injury.

Now removed from injured reserve, Harper is free to sign with any other team. He can also return to the Steelers after a certain amount of time.

Harper, a former Oklahoma State star, was on Pittsburgh’s practice squad last offseason but did not appear in a game. Prior to signing with the Steelers, Harper spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys.

He has appeared in nine games in his NFL career, making five tackles. Harper had a pair of tackles this preseason for the Steelers.

Harper had fallen behind rookie Carson Bruener and veteran Mark Robinson in the competition for a roster spot at inside linebacker. That alone likely spelled his doom, but an injury does not help things for the veteran.

In addition to Harper hitting injured reserve, the wire also says that wide receiver Gabe Davis has completed his visit with the Bills, and he did not strike a deal with them immediately.
