Could Giants QB have UFC career after NFL? ‘Really trying to fight people in the locker room’

Giants quarterback Jameis Winston is known for his animated sideline and locker room antics. But a recent story from teammate Tyrone Tracy Jr. suggests Winston is very interested in showing off different skills — in mixed martial arts.

Tracy was a guest on the “Nightcap” show with Shannon Sharpe and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson on Tuesday. When asked if Winston was as animated and colorful as he appeared in videos on social media, the running back said Winston does crazy stuff every day.

“We had a UFC fighter come to our practice and she gave him some gloves and signed them and everything,” Tracy said. “Jameis comes in the locker room and starts like doing UFC-like kicks and fights with the gloves on. He’s really trying to fight people in the locker room, showing us how he kicks and everything. I promise you, I thought I was an outgoing person until I met him. He’s literally one of one. He’s a great person and a very down-to-earth guy.”

Winston was signed to a two-year, $8 million deal with the Giants this offseason, serving as the backup (or No. 3) to Russell Wilson. With Wilson being tapped as the starter and rookie Jaxson Dart looking impressive during the preseason, there was chatter that the Giants would be interested in trading Winston. Those talks were quelled by Giants assistant general manager Brandon Brown, who said Tuesday that Winston would remain with the team, meaning there could be more lighthearted stories in the future.

“I appreciate people that are interested, but Jameis is a New York Giant,” Brown said. “The way that he’s gone about his business from day one, he’s made it very intentional that he wants to be here and for the long haul.”
