**West Ham** are said to be “working day and night” to get [transfer](https://www.claretandhugh.info/west-ham-transfer-news/) deals over the line, with club insiders admitting “everyone at the club accepts West Ham needs to improve.”
But the phrase “work smarter, not harder” springs to mind—because what’s the point in toiling through the night if the offers being made will never be accepted?
The crazy thing is, West Ham know Southampton want £50m for Mateus Fernandes, yet we offered £28m and then increased it to £30m.
Hammers insiders claim the Saints’ valuation is madness, but have also admitted we don’t even have £40m to spend. So why are we bothering? It seems like a complete waste of everyone’s time.
It feels as though we have Ford money but are chasing a Mercedes, despite not being able to afford one. Don’t worry though—we’re “working day and night” without actually producing the cash.
For the record, Fernandes is overpriced in today’s market, particularly given James McAtee left Manchester City for less than £30m. But ultimately, it’s Southampton’s prerogative to demand whatever they want.
The real madness is West Ham continually bidding when we know our offers won’t be accepted.
