Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville disagree over whether Joao Pedro will be a ‘hit’ at Chelsea

After his excellent start to life at Chelsea in the Club World Cup, there is an expectation that Joao Pedro will hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge.

Pedro was handed the start up front against Crystal Palace in the opening game of the season, however was unable to properly get involved in what turned out to be an underwhelming 0-0 draw.

There was an argument to start Liam Delap against the physical back three, but it still looks as if Enzo Maresca will keep the faith with Pedro when he is picking his team for the upcoming game against West Ham.

Cole Palmer is really excited by the signing of Pedro, and the two have already shown signs of what is to come during the Club World Cup.

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher disagree on Chelsea’s Joao Pedro signing

Despite additions such as Jamie Gittens, Estevao Willian and Jorrel Hato, it is Pedro who is expected to make the biggest impact straight away at Stamford Bridge.

Not everyone is so convinced he is going to be the star Chelsea fans are hoping for though. Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher have both told The Overlap that they are not convinced he will be a ‘hit’.

However, both Ian Wright and Gary Neville have stated that they think he will succeed at Stamford Bridge.

Wright said: “I think with Cole Palmer behind him he’s gonna be a hit you know. He’s going to do what Nicolas Jackson should have done for Cole Palmer.

Neville added: “I think I’m gonna go hit. I think he’ll do well. I think they’ve got some good players. Really good midfield players.”

Neville has predicted that Chelsea will fall short in any title race this season due to their lack of firepower up front in Pedro and Delap.

Pedro looking for career-first in West Ham clash

Pedro will be hoping that he is trusted with a start against West Ham, where he has a chance to do something he hasn’t yet accomplished in the Premier League.

Despite facing them on a handful of occasions for both Brighton and Watford, Pedro has never scored against West Ham in his career.

There will likely be more responsibility on the Brazilian’s shoulders due to the expected departure of Nicolas Jackson, who has been up front for the last two seasons at Stamford Bridge.
