Maresca confirms Chelsea duo will not play against West Ham

Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku will not be part of the Chelsea squad to face West Ham on Friday night.

Jackson and Nkunku are expected to leave Chelsea before the September 1st deadline with both exploring moves. The former is available on Friday after suspension but will play no part at the London Stadium.

The Senegal international is keen to leave Chelsea after the club’s summer signings of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro. Fellow forward Nkunku is currently in talks with former side RB Leipzig over a return to Germany.

“He (Jackson) is available but he is not going to be part of squad tomorrow”, Maresca said at his pre-match press conference.

“We have two strikers and also we know that something can happen before the transfer window closes.

“Christopher is with us, like Nico, but it’s the same answer as Nico. The other two players [Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson] are training apart.

“We have still two weeks. No idea [whether they will still be at Chelsea] because it is difficult to plan because anything can happen.”
